The generation of
negotiable documents as electronic records instead of traditional paper
begins with a Letter of Credit that allows for electronic presentation under
the Supplement to the UCP for Electronic Presentation, Version 1 (eUCP).
If the Credit is
issued under the eUCP, documents as electronic records may be presented for
examination either to the advising bank or directly back to the issuing bank.
The most common
format of electronic documents is Portable Document File, or PDF.These electronic records are the
responsibility of the beneficiary to generate, the same as traditional paper
documents.
